About Us

Computational Modelling Cambridge Ltd. (CMCL) develops and markets scientific and engineering software, and offers technical consultancy services to solve practical problems in the infrastructure, automotive, energy, materials and chemical industries. The company was spun out from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, from the University of Cambridge and has delivered over a decade of organic growth as a fully independent entity.

Since our inception, we observed, common shared problems across sectors. These included poor sustainability, resilience, adaptability and decision-making processes. When we explored the root causes behind these issues, we identified data and information silos and a lack of cross-domain accountability.

The World Avatar™ uses a dynamic Knowledge Graph based approach that captures the connected nature and the context of cross-domain data, thus facilitating consistent knowledge representation and effective decision making. This semantic Artificial Intelligence (AI) approach enables interoperability between data, software tools and domain experts. Practical use cases cover a gamut of domains from a question-answer system for chemistry and holistic optimisation of heat networks to imagining and exploring what-if scenarios digitally for smart infrastructure.

In parallel, we have continued to develop our multi-award winning software tools that provide workable solutions to our customers enabling them to simulate, design and optimise their process or engineering systems (physical and chemical). Our Model Development Suite (MoDS) software is used to develop reduced order surrogate models, perform parameter estimation, multi-objective optimisation, multi-criteria decision making and uncertainty propagation. The “kinetics & SRM Engine Suite” continues to be applied by manufacturers, powertrain developers and fuel/energy companies worldwide to design and optimise low-carbon materials and emission-compliant energy conversion technologies.

Since inception, CMCL and CMPG have proudly collaborated with some of the world’s top industry leaders, academic institutions and research laboratories across a variety of products, projects and publications.
