DE-WASTE

Background

DE-WASTE, or Digital Empowered Holistic Management and Recycling of Industrial WASTE, is a digital waste managmeent project in partnership with BNL, an environmental services company based in Singapore.

CMCL will be supporting BNL’s waste management division with operational insights. The waste management sector will be key to delivering and achieving net zero emissions, and due to its interactions with many other interconnected sectors, such as transport, energy and health, it represents an ideal partner for deploying The World Avatar™ approach.

Through this project, we aim to break down silos, further operational efficiency, connect to external sectors and build knowledge and expertise. As part of this work, waste-sector ontologies will be delivered to support data models and knowledge graphs, ensuring data is interoperable, interpretable and useful acrosss all strands of the business.

This work has been co-funded through a UK-Singapore Collaboration R&D grant from Innovate UK.

Backend Development

To build any impactful software tool, there needs to be a solid foundation of high quality, FAIR data.

To begin, CMCL built a data model to represent the organisational data flows within BNL. Ontologies representing the waste management sector, roles in the sector and contracts between BNL and their clients were created.

Example data has been instantiated in a knowledge graph, and accessed through a web portal. Access to pages is managed through authentication and authorisation.

Frontend Development

To ensure BNL are able to access their data, we are building a GUI, intended to be used by managers and drivers.

This project will run from late 2023 to late 2026, and this page is being constantly updated as the project progresses.
